Michael Jackson was one of the greatest pop stars of all time.
After recent allegations, I do not believe I could ever listen to his work.
Do you seperate the art from the artist?

I'd like to say that usually I can, because lord knows if I held personal foibles against every one who produced art, be it paintings or sculptures or movies and TV or comics or music, I'd be sitting at home in silence. Everybody sins, everybody transgresses, everybody has some inner demons...a lot of times it is those very demons that fuels their art. As such, I generally find that if they've brought something beautiful, or poignant, or funny, or insightful, or whatever into the world, I appreciate that thing even while knowing the person who brought it to me may be a scumbag. For instance, OJ being a murdering scumbag doesn't stop me from watching the Naked Gun movies. Russell Crowe breaking up Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid's marriage didn't stop me from loving LA Confidential or The Nice Guys, etc etc. Eddie Murphy paying a tranny hooker for sex damn sure isn't gonna stop me from watching and loving 48 Hrs. or Coming to America, etc.
Yeah, I'd like to say that, but honestly it depends on the circumstances. Because I know I'll never be able to watch the Cosby Show or Bill Cosby: Himself again. And maybe that's because both that show and that stand-up special were built around the persona he crafted of being a loving family man, while all the while he apparently was anything but, and therefore those works feel tainted, I don't know. But that's a situation where I can't separate the two.

I love Wagner's operas despite his anti-semitism.

Michael Jackson After recent allegations, "Recent"? Any respect I might have had for him died loooooong before he finally kicked the bucket. Anytime one of his songs come on, it's an instant station change. Another one would be how I can't stomach the Naked Gun movies anymore because of OJ Simpson.

Since I can't tell with Jackson, I'm going to continue to listen to his stuff.

Here's the thing for me, if anything else comes out about Jackson, I might shift into the believer category, and in that case, I couldn't stomach listening to him anymore. With guys like OJ and Spacey and Cosby, I already believe, and won't watch them.

In a probably bad example-- we all know what Gerard Jones did but that doesn't stop me from reading his Green Lantern or Justice League. DC characters he wrote arent guilty of anything.

What Jackson did for me is so horrific and now I very much believe it is true, I just can’t do it any more.
Orson Scott Card feels different. I disagree massively with him.... but can accept his work.

It's been said before, but it'll be case-by-case, not just by the offense, but also by the individual. You can look at politics, how some people are willfully ignorant of what the Orange Dingus is doing/has done, but woe unto those from a different party that does the same thing.
I don't regret owning Superman Returns, I can still watch it despite Spacey. I can still watch something with Mel Gibson in it (though he's actually made efforts to improve himself). But "The Cosby Show"? Nope. Can't do it. I'm surprised at least one network is still airing it, but I just can't bring myself to turn it on, if I wanted. I've foregone watching the Nostalgia Critic ever since the "Change the Channel" campaign last year. Sure, I'd like to watch his reviews, but I've chosen not to, mostly because of the guy they placed in charge of Channel Awesome, Mike Michaud, who seemed to be the primary source of a lot of problems. If they got rid of him and the Walkers showed some improvement themselves, then I could be persuaded to binge what I've missed.
Another matter would be those who make themselves "part" of their art, such as a comedian. Those who get known for their material, based on their perspectives, which is invariably connected to their opinions/viewpoints. Now, I can watch a stand-up that I disagree with, but they can still cross a line. Yet not only with those that agree with them be fine, someone like Bill Maher, who built his career as someone that is offensive and off-putting, "mean" if you will, some would argue "he's supposed to be like that, that's the 'joke', don't you get it?" So in a way, the "artist" arguably cannot be separated from the "art". In Maher's case, while I can stomach the few seconds he was in Iron Man 3 without detracting from the film, if I ever meet him face-to-face...well, let's just say the closest thing to an intelligent thought he'll ever get is after I brain him with a dirt shovel.
