What kind of games (besides Pokémon) do you like? Historically, Fallouts (that aren't 76), Gran Turismo/Forza, Might& Magic, Final Fantasy (VIII is my favorite), Elebits, Picrosses etc. Not into multi-player anything or button smashers. With the Switch not having any region restrictions , I'd be interested looking knowing more about all those Japanese RPG's I could have played before (or maybe still can't if there isn't a translation). It's not surprising that most of the games (outside from the ones you get from Nintendo themselves) are stuff you can get from other publishers. Also there tends to be a "Nintendo tax". That being said...
I haven't played FF yet (I know, I know), but have you any interest in a more old school inspired Japanese RPG? If so, then Octopath Traveler is exclusive to Switch.
i'm not sure about the puzzle games (I wish they brought a new Meteos and Zoo Keeper), but there is Lumines Remastered which had good press. I think Pool Panic looks like a lot of fun, I bought it but haven't played it yet. If you have young ones, then Snipperclips is a very fun co-op, get the expanded edition since it has more puzzles. There are a few versions of Picross on Switch. If you didn't get Captain Toad on WiiU, then that might be something fun for you and your family.
On the RPG front… I haven't played it, but I heard the DS-era game The World Ends With You is good. Disgaea 5 seems to get good reviews (along with GLX's suggestion of Valkyria Chronicles). When I look at lists, it seems Darkest Dungeon ranks well, but it is not a JRPG and I haven't really looked into it. Not *really* an rpg, but sort of, and not Japanese, Golf Story is kind of inspired by Japanese games (and it's pretty funny). There's always Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (the "prequel" expansion I hear is more polished so you might want to try that if you don't feel that into it)… |
