Just rewatched the DS9 episode The Siege of AR-558. That is some powerful story-telling. Well, at least you're not going on about Enterprise. That was some seriously wrecked sh!t. For my money, the single best Trek episode from any of the shows was "Q Who?", from Next Gen. Also served the purpose of turning the whole series around. I actually enjoy Enterprise (with the exception of the series finale, which struck me as a missed opportunity.)

For me, the whole thing was a wasted opportunity. I'd see too many say for example opening scenes where the biggest tension builder was whether or not Tripp would in fact pass the salt like the captain requested. As opposed to say Next Gen's better episodes where the mystery of an alien ship with unknown intentions might have served that purpose a bit better, or even DS9 facing a Dominion attack, or trying to sort the Bajoran/Cardassian thing out before the opening titles. Enterprise just wasn't well written is what I'm saying. Certainly Sam could have done better, even given all that quantum leaping about he was doing. Still, if you like it... I understand almost nobody involved like the finale either. Seems like a weird place to just kill off a key character.

While it got off to a slow, shaky start, the same thing could be said of The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Actually, with the exception of the original series (which took the opposite track...it started strong and ended with a sub-par season), all the subsequent Star Trek show got off to shaky starts. But once it gets into its second season, Enterprise really became an entertaining show. Archer is a wonderful character, and the crew began to click. I was very disappointed that show did not get a fourth season.

The show did turn around in its final season (it could have gone on maybe one more season in that direction), but that finale… UGH. I'm surprised achilles doesn't like Enterprise more, it did have Porthos in it.

People were tired of Star Trek in general by that point. The producers had killed the Golden Goose.

As a longtime Trek fan, I was not tired of it, but maybe I was weird. The concept itself, going back to before TNG, already made me unhappy. My idea of Trek was always going forward. Boldly going.
I get that they wanted to show a more dangerous time in space exploration, but in my opinion they did a poor job of it. Plus going backward in time means that there are likely less of an alien presence in Starfleet so your core cast are just a bunch of boring humans… or you get Neelix. Then you start tying in things from the future that really shouldn't be there (eg. Ferengi, Borg).
I wish they just kept going forward. A story or miniseries set in the past is fine, but ugh I am not happy about sticking in the past of Trek that they are trending towards (Star Trek reboot movies, Discovery), so I am a little interested in the Picard series set in that series' future…

I do agree jumping ahead 100 years or so would be a better option for the franchise.

And by "dope", you mean "sucky". That treatment must be effecting your brain. Stand resolute in your correctness the Dominion War was awesome. Next Achilles says we need less Quark, Garrick, or dax on the show.

It was that it had an ongoing plot?

It was that it had an ongoing plot? No, it was that it took too long to get to the end of the Dominion War. Other than that, it was fine, it was good.
