I would have been more interested in a total 100% over the top all the way crazy Jared Leto Joker movie than a sympathetic you made me this way Joaquin Phoenix Joker

Hopefully, there are no epileptics viewing this site... Also, this is proof that too much Joker is too much. And this is a Phoenix too far. No one needs or wants to know the Joker's origin. Especially when done the Scorsese way. Especially when you can just watch Taxi Driver itself, without having to see Taxi Driver lite. Opinions vary. This movie seems, in the main, to be gaining traction.

Is this Joker movie worth watching? I've seen so many nasty reviews of the film (including some by comics creators, notably Dan Slott). The most common criticism I've seen is that it's a bad, unnecessary remake of Taxi Driver. But then I saw Tyler Cowen, an economist, call it "the most anti-Leftist movie I have seen, ever." He argues that most of the negative criticism stems not from the film's quality (which is good) but rather from the film's reactionary message (which, whether good or bad, is at odds with the political values of most film critics). Here, btw, is a link to his quickie review: marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2019/10/the-joker.htmlThoughts?

At the moment, they mostly seem to be about cars and baseball. The sad thing is that this is supposed to be only the second best movie DeNiro's in this year.

Personally I thought it was was of the best movies to come out in the past 10 years or so. I highly recommend it.

My problem with this thing is its very concept. IMO, the Joker is best when used sort of like a movie horror villain; his presence should be felt in stories about him, but his actual appearances should be limited. You go showing him all the time, or normalizing him with a specific background, he's just that unpleasant uncle who's always overstaying his welcome, rather than an ultimate horrifying villain. You cheapen him in essence. I think the pointed mystery of Ledger's version probably made for the most effective Joker. It's the same mistake they keep making with Aliens and Predators; trying to explain where they came from. Come on, its the thrill of the random terror from the dark; the thing that you can't understand or empathize in any way with that's horrifying...that's why Jaws worked, or why the original Jurassic Park worked as a horror movie, you couldn't relate to something coming for you specifically.

Have you seen the movie? Nope, not my cup of tea as I said. Ford vs Ferrari though might be more my ticket.

Possibly, but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure for example that Phoenix is every bit as good as people claim. But the whole premise of the movie, detailing what turned a guy into the Joker. I prefer just to watch the Joker fight Batman. That's about as much as I care to know about him.
