Sob now that its all said and done... Why? I get that monetarily it was no longer feasible, but why did it have to be torn down? Did I miss some drama necessitating it? BECAUSE it was no longer feasible? The servers websites are on don't keep the site UP when the site goes out of business. Once you stop paying for the space, they stop giving you the space. Would they be willing to give someone the name though? It's not that hard or expensive to keep a message board running. I really dont see any reason the boards had to disappear.

Who, the server company?
They don't own the name, or the domain address. I do. So they couldn't give anyone anything, no.

If your local comic book store closes down, do you ask them why they didn't just give their store to someone else? Or do you just go to another store and complain that the old store didn't give itself away? Unless I misread the question, and you're expressing an interest in purchasing the rights...

Difference is the local store closing down still has value as a property. Have you had any offers for the domain name?

You're the one who seems concerned about this, not me. You're the one asking why I didn't just give my site away for free, not me. You're the one who thinks I owe you an explanation for my choices in life, not me.

When everyone is sad about something happening and there's a clear solution, then why not solve the problem? Did you solicit offers? Were there any? Did anyone else ask to run the boards? I think those are valid questions.

Sometimes you just want popcorn. With lots of butter.
