Well, the Washington Nationals have revealed their 2019 World Series ring, and.... I Like It!Bling, but still somewhat restrained for something crusted with diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. I especially like that Baby Shark made it to the ring's inside.

I inherited a Steve Garvey Card, Does That Count?Though I admit I would like 6 hand signed Babe Ruth cards. Not to mention that signed Lou Gehrig card... I wonder if that guy knew what he had? If he ever considered selling them? And of course, given his age, he probably got them signed personally, which is a bit of a wonder.

Er...No.I was afraid of this. Favre obviously retired far too late, and the brain damage has added up. Let's be clear, I don't care about the guy taking a knee. That was apparently his perogative. But...let's also be clear, he is and was a pampered multi millionaire playing a game, (rather terribly in his last season). He did not give up everything to enter the military and fight for his country like Tillman. Nor was he killed in action doing so. Comparing Kaepernick to Tillman, (if I spelled those names wrong, it's because I can't spell), is frankly, crazy. Kaepernick actually profited from his stance, Tillman...got killed. After NOT living the millionaire lifestyle.

Yeah, they both get it. And your spelling is better than you thought.

Yeah, they both get it. And your spelling is better than you thought. Whatever you think of Kaepernick's stance, it didn't cost him a thing. He probably makes a lot more money now from sponsorships than he ever would have as a QB. I recall his final season vividly; he was one of the worst QBs I'd seen at that point. He couldn't read a defense to save his life, had a cannon of an arm, but couldn't hit his teammates to save his life. Though he could and did hit the other team's players. Which again came from his complete inability to read a defense. Worst of all was his attitude, and I'm not talking about the kneeling. By all accounts, the guy just refused to put in the work. He didn't like watching film, didn't basically want to put in any of the work you need at that level. So he basically found a gig he likes a lot better. And one in which he doesn't get pummelled into the ground several dozen times a game. Let's also not forget that K's own heroes tend to be mass murderers. Or that he advocates violence against police. No, sorry, on both substantive and character issues, K is NOT a hero. A social activist perhaps, but not a hero. He never put his money where his mouth was, Tillman did, and paid the price. No, sorry, that was just the ramblings of a brain damaged QB who played way too long. You may or may not admire K, or aspects of his life, but nothing there says hero. As for the spelling, everyone gets lucky once in a while...

And you can't say he never put his money where his mouth is. My first google hit has him giving over a million to charities (and the page only goes up to 2018). www.ninersnation.com/2018/1/31/16956016/colin-kaepernick-donations-full-list-of-organizations-one-million-dollarsThere are all types of heroes.

Wow, he gave a tiny portion of what he's earned by...doing nothing. I might point out that Trump has given far more to charity than K; does that make him a hero? Heroism doesn't have to come at a cost, but it should entail a risk, which Tillman took, but K didn't. There was never any real downside for K, and his stance has made him much richer than he would have been as a terrible backup QB, and at far less physical cost. It was a smart move, maybe even a moral one, but it wasn't heroic, and certainly NOT on anything approaching a level with Tillman, who gave up everything, even before making the ultimate sacrifice.

Do you know what time it is? It's time for Dodger baseball! And other teams as well, but I couldn't resist Vin Scully's famous greeting to fans. There's a lot of weird and awful rule changes....universal DH, runners start on second in extra innings, some stuff about trades and the DL. It's actually pretty hard to pin down the details, but it seems to start about a month from now, and run about 60 games.

Patrick Mahonnes just got himself the biggest contract in pro sports history, over a half billion dollars over ten years. Congrats to him. Meanwhile, the Eagles apparently have a piece of human garbage, DeSean Jackson, playing for them. A Hitler was right sort and worshipper of Farrakhan, he's an evil anti-Semite/Black supremacist, this guy quotes Hitler in an approving way. Yet the NFL and the Eagles are SILENT about this creep. I guess being a Nazi wannabe and overall evil person isn't enough to distract the NFL or the Eagles from the important business of kneeling. Wonder why this guy's views aren't attracting more attention, and why he's still allowed to play for the NFL? That might be a rhetorical question... www.foxnews.com/sports/eagles-desean-jackson-accused-anti-semitism-posting-quotes-hitler-farrakhan

The team issued a firm statement condemning his posts and saying they told him to say he was sorry. Then, they said they would put him in the corner for a period, and assigned him a book report to write in penance. Unfortunately, his book report was on Mein Kampf... www.bbc.com/sport/american-football/53327285

Well, more about the NFL and the Eagle's little Hitler problem. Turns out, very much unlike that monster Drew Brees who monstrously didn't like kneeling for the National Anthem because of his family's military connections, Hitler is popular among some NFL players, a few of whom have come out with to agree with that idiot from the Eagles. So...there's some social justice I should think.
But set against that backdrop of evil people like Brees, there is a resounding lack of any criticisms at all for the player from the NFL itself, or really any of it's players, all of whom therefore apparently agree with him. As does the NFL, though the Eagles so far have issued him a stern talking to...well, a stern text...well, a weak form statement...YES, THAT'S the one!

There actually is some sports news of note. The baseball season, such as it will be, starts this week. Dodgers' fans aren't going to be cheated by COVID after all; they signed Mookie Betts to a 12 year $365 million extension. www.yahoo.com/sports/mookie-betts-signs-massive-12-year-365-million-extension-with-dodgers-210524666.htmlHonestly, they had to resign him. Also, if you're into it, the July basho in Grand Sumo is underway, with 25% capacity of fans, who are not allowed to cheer, but can clap. Having seen the previous one with no fans, and some with all the fans, I can say it does make a huge difference. We're conditioned to see people in the stands, and hear their cheering or clapping, and it seems weird when we don't.
