Opening Day at the Dodgers! They play the Giant with their newly resigned star Mookie Betts. Evidently it wasn't just his stats in prior years, but how he played in preseason for the Dodgers, showing up at 5 in the morning, becoming a clubhouse leader....evidently he's the total package, (sorry Lex, your wrestling days are long done). It was the second richest contract in MLB history, and IMO well worth it from the information everyone has now. Obviously, he might tank for them, but I'm hoping not.
I admit, I'm still skeptical that the season, such as it is, goes forward, but I guess we'll see. It's supposed to be 60 games.

It will be Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr toward the end of the year. No, that's not a typo. It isn't the 80s. What Tyson has done evidently is put together a senior fight league...well maybe he has. It all depends on if there's a market for watching old guys fight. After seeing Tyson spar, I imagine that his list of old, retired fighters willing to fight him has...shrunk a bit. Dude's ripped for his age, and fast and strong. He must have been a nightmare to fight in his prime.

Well now NFL fans can root for.....the Washington...er...Football Team! Yes, They Spent Almost 30 Seconds Thinking That One Up!Okay, it's an interim name...but how hard is it to come up with a name for a Washington football team? The Washington Gridlocks maybe, or the Washington Bottom Feeders....you want to get a feel for the host city.

I have now set the over and under for how long the MLB season lasts at...two weeks. Put your guesses in now...
Meanwhile, in the Dodger game against the Houston Cheaters...er, Astros, in the land of evil, (Houston), Dodger pitcher Joe Kelly totally accidentally let a couple of pitches get slightly away from him. It happens, we've all had those days when the ball just slips out of you hand prematurely, and that obviously is what happened. And those crying gestures he was making to Correa as he left the mound were totally because he had something in his eyes. And I'm sure he was talking about the weather as he left the mound.
So the news that MLB suspended Kelly for 8 games, the equivalent of 22 games in a real season, while the Astros players served...er, no games suspension, and got to keep unearned World Series rings.

Hmmm, it looks like college football is toast this year. The Big Ten cancelled it's season yesterday, and it looks like the Pac Twelve or whatever it's up to this year will do something similar today. Most of the other majors are thought to be following the Big Ten's lead. Sad, but inevitable. Yet another blow to my mood this fall though. I wonder though how the NFL will get along with this thing. I mean, if there was ever a sport almost designed to pass infectious airborne diseases, it's got to be football. I did however find a winner in COVID, and that is the Houston Astros! After the Dodgers thing, some tiffs with the Padres, and now the bench clearing brawl with the A's, who weren't taking any of the Astros' crap, it's apparent that had fans been there, the clanging of trash can lids would have been both deafening, and the least of their problems...

I'm not worried, I still have the last College Football game they made.

The Tatis jr. thing was a crock, but not the way MLB seems to think. You don't IMO tell a guy who is geared up to know that a GS is the culmination of what he can do as a baseball player...not to hit that grand slam. You just don't. And to hold him as some kind of villain for hitting it....geeze! Making him...freaking APOLOGIZE for hitting a grand slam....that's just terrible.
As for those who think you should....and that you should have a mercy rule...let me remind that there's no crying in baseball....

So in the Clippers/Mavs playoff game, a Clipper, (Montrezl Harrell), called Luca Doncic of the Mavs a "Bitch ass white boy", which sure sounds like a racist comment to me, and evidently nothing happens. Well, Doncic DID go on the very next game to have a triple double and win the game tying the series....so I guess that's something. However, just imagine if Doncic, who is even whiter than I am, said the same in reverse to Harrell. Who, by the way has English as his next language, much like Lebron James, both of whom presumably speak something vaguely related to English right now, in much the same way English is exactly the same as German. Done the other way round, Doncic would have been fired, cancelled, and either deported or arrested, whichever. Maybe shot. With this however, the Clip's coach basically shrugged and said, "yawn." For a sample of Harrell's doctoral thesis in English, try Here.

RIP Tom Terrific, (Tom Seaver), Greatest Met Of All Time. Seaver, who was 75, died of complications of Lewy body dementia, (named for conglomerates of Lewy proteins in the brain that eventually kill you----it's what Robin Williams had that drove him to suicide), and COVID. As a pitcher, he won 311 games, and 3 Cy Young awards. His ERA was 2.86, he was elected to the HOF in 92 with the highest percentage of votes for him at the time. He was also by all accounts a very good person. So RIP to the greatest Met of them all.

Congrats to the Marlins, the first team in MLB history to make the playoffs after losing more than 100 games the previous season. Heh. They can also in theory win their third World Series without ever having won a division...
