Gahan Wilson, master cartoonist of the macabre, passed away Nov. 21. He was known for his cartoons that appeared in Playboy, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction and National Lampoon for many years, and provided the illustrations for Roger Zelazny's short novel A Night in the Lonesome October.
I've loved Wilson's work since I was a teenager. He had the most wonderfully macabre sense of humor. He also wrote book and movie reviews for F&SF and The Twilight Zone magazine. I urge everyone who isn't familiar with him to seek out his work wherever they can find it. The world is a poorer place without his delightfully weird cartoons.
My condolences to his family and friends.
