Can anyone explain to me why police in CA are ticketing people for watching the sunset in their cars, using two boats to arrest a LONE paddleboarder off Malibu, and why the governor is letting prisoners go by the thousands....while the police are ignoring the huge homeless encampments where I guarantee they are not practicing social distancing? Could there be perhaps a tiny BIT of personal judgement exercised not only by the public, but by the police. And what does letting convicts go accomplish aside from putting more criminals on the street at a time when we frankly have other problems? I can't speak to those specific incidents or your state, but I think part of the thinking is that they want people to stay home if they have a home (homeless, well…). People watching the sunset in the cars presume they had to travel via a car, a paddleboarder out in the sea means there is the possibility that rescue services may need to be called in case they get in trouble, etc. Taken indivually it doesn't seem like much, but if everyone has that same attitude, then cases would multiply. I'm not saying it is 100% right, but I kind of see the point (though I think some of the fines threatened -- here at least -- are kind of extreme). Not sure about the prison situation but I thought those cases were for misdemeanors, though again, I could be wrong.

There is one action the state is taking that's....very, very, very, very, very ill-advised; they're mandating that skilled nursing facilities open their doors to taking COVID patients....putting them right next to the elderly and sick. Hope they rescind that, or the facilities simply refuse the order. Which is odd because he's talking about how we're doing much better than the previous projections to the point where we're shipping excess ventilators to the feds to distribute to other states. I hope that optimism is warranted. BTW, hope you're holding out okay.

I am not a big fan of the Chinese government, but they have the resources to do things that would be more effective (eg. the facilities created for previous epidemics that are poised to help for this pandemic). Having the patients too close to certain facilities are a bad idea.
Things are uneasy here in Hawai‘i, but so far okay. Most of us are kind of just waiting to see how things go. Since we are on an island, many residents have taken to hoarding mentality (in every emergency, hurricane, tsunami warnings, etc). THAT part is crazy. Thanks for asking and I hope you are doing okay too, as well as every comics pit-ter. Well, except for Zechs.
{Spoiler} Just kidding, hope you are good too Zechs.

Sadly, and scarily, this thing is finding another way to be a complete ahole. Because of the strain...or the anticipated strain, on hospitals, many locations including NYC and Los Angeles, are basically allowing people presenting with heart attacks symptoms...are essentially being left to die by paramedics who are being instructed to wait five minutes after stabilizing to see if they have another one and die. And I hear that at one NYC hospital at least, cancer surgeries have been indefinitely postponed.
Basically, COVID is killing people who don't even have it. That said, here in SoCal, we have a lot of empty ERs, as I found out firsthand. But apparently my experience was hardly unique. People with minor complaints, (just to note that ERs were never meant for "minor" complaints, for those, I wish everyone would just go to their doctor or an urgent care place instead), are now avoiding ERs...like the plague, and in some ERs, the COVID patients or potential ones go to tents set up outside, rather than the ER proper, which IMO is a good bet, since people aren't going to stop getting sick from other things, or suffering accidents.

And now there's a declared state of emergency in Tokyo.

RIP John Prine.Another huge loss to COVID. The Cruise Industry Is Toast.Okay, given this horror, and the other cruise ship COVID horrors, and the horrors that often happen on the big cruise ships in normal times, how fast do you think these companies are going to circle the drain? Note that though they have asked, Trump has told them, rightly IMO, that if they wanted a US bailout, they shouldn't have incorporated in other countries to avoid US taxes. So they're not getting any bailouts, and are holding onto a veritable...boatload of...sunk costs in all the docking fees, staffing fees, and maintenance costs, insurance, and other costs on those ships, which average around three quarters of a billion dollars to build. But who is going to want to go on them now?

So I was watching CA Governor Gavin Newsom give his daily briefing, and it seems to me that he's very well up on all aspects of the problem here in CA, and well in touch with the members of his team. I'm guessing he's devoting most of his time to it. Good for him, glad to see him rising to the occasion.

Yeah, this is the kind of thing Dark Jeannie would do to disgrace her sister. She's obviously in cahoots with the ayatollahs. Thank you, sdsichero, my faith in Jeannie is restored!
