Green Arrow: O'Neill/Adams Grell Smith Lemire Percy Dixon I know I am supposed to like the O'Neil/Adams stuff more, but Grell nailed that character for me.

Other standouts:
Ostrander Suicide Squad (and the Deadshot mini) Barr/Aparo/Davis Batman & the Outsiders Basically every Bat-Family book written by Chuck Dixon Simone Birds of Prey Gray/Palmiotti Hawkman Simone's All-New Atom Sword of the Atom Grayson Seeley's Nightwing Capt. Carrot & His Amazing Zoo Crew! Robinson/Goyer/Johns JSA Waid's Brave & the Bold original flavor Brave & the Bold Deadman Gotham by Midnight Gotham Central All-Star Squadron (primarily 1-27 and the first 2 Annuals, before Ordway left) JMD's I, Vampire (the Fialkov/Sorrentino Nu52 version was actually really good too) Demon Knights
And though it pains and sorely vexes me to say it:
DnA's Legion stuff, particularly Legion Lost

I'm actually just now reading the Grell stuff for the first time. Gotten through Longbow Hunters and the first 4 (of 9) trades so far. It could move up for me by the time I finish, but so far my order is as listed.

Also, a glaring omission on my part:
Starman — probably the most consistently great book from start to finish in comics history; just the perfect DC book

Those were great runs, but I feel obligated to mention the man the started it all. I tease writer Ed Herron sometimes, but it’s meant with the utmost affection. Let me take a moment to give some proper credit. France Edward Herron (1917-1966) was a comic book writer and editor active in the 40s through the 60s. He is credited with co-creating Captain Marvel Jr. and the Red Skull, as well as such characters as Cave Carson and Nighthawk. Herron began writing for DC Comics in 1945, starting in Adventure Comics and World’s Finest Comics. Herron was Green Arrow’s lead writer throughout the 1950s, staying with the character until 1963.

It would be remiss not to mention Darwyn Cooke and New Frontier, the best mini in the past twenty years (at DC).

Yeah, I was about to include it in my list of best/favorite Elseworlds tales:
New Frontier Gotham by Gaslight JSA: Golden Age The Nail/Another Nail
Secret Identity
Kingdom Come Detective No. 27 JLA: Created Equal
JLA: Secret Society of Super-Heroes
And I guess Red Son should get a mention, even though I think it's wildly overrated.

I must say I did NOT like Johns' tinkering with Moore's GL mythology. Nor did I think his creation of different "color" Corps to rival the GL Corps, and classification of willpower as an emotion that powered the rings as very special or creative; I just think it took away from the story of the Corps. His best skill IMO is creating new characters, (yes, some of them from that same thing with the various Corps I mentioned above), and then writing them. The problem is allowing him to write other characters, particularly those he's indicated he doesn't understand or like. And allowing him to write more than say two titles, which appears to be the limit that he can write well. He's not especially good at plotting, or characterization IMO, and at best is a competent basic writer who is never going to be remembered with the greats.

From what I hear about Female Furies--I feel bad for dumping on Tom King. 😑
