I decided to buy all of these one-shots. For the most part I'm glad I did.
Crypt of Shadows was was just alright. I do have to say that the story would have been better with one single artist throughout. The choice was made to have different artists draw the story at selected points. I thought this choice made the story feel somewhat disjointed to tell the truth.
Journey Into Unknown Worlds was split between two stories (a feature of a few of these one shots) and both succeeded in being creepy. Neither was the best story I've ever read in the horror comic genre, but they were enjoyable.
War is Hell may have been my favourite of these issues. Like Journey Into Unknown Worlds it was split into two separate stories. One told the tale of a WWII German fighter pilot that had a really good ending filled with irony and tragedy while the other was a more modern tale that dealt with the supernatural force that a modern U.S. soldier couldn't fight against.
Love Romances was easily my least favourite of this bunch. There were a whole bunch of stories and I can say that I only liked one of them.
Gunhawks told the tale of Deadman Donnally and his final fate. It was well done and was one of the better of this group.
Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal are two golden age characters from Marvel's past that I was unaware of before I read their one-shot. There were a few points that had me laughing out loud.
Ranking them, I'd go
War is Hell
Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal
Gunhawks
Journey Into Unknown Worlds
Crypt of Shadows
Love Romances
Did anyone else here read any of these?
