I enjoyed the first issue of the new Dial H For Hero. It's gotten me thinking about the history of the H-Dial and the many forms it has taken. The first H-Dial of course looked like this: Then it became two H-Dials, both of which could be worn on the wrist. Since then it came to Hero Cruz in Superboy and the Ravers where it took the form of an oversized belt buckle. It also later became a push button device, before changing to something closer to it's original form, but with letters from the Interlac written language from LSH. On the series before the latest it took the form of a classic phone dial. Finally in the most recent series it looks like a old fashioned, red dial phone The thing I love about the way the H-Dial has developed is the fact that with each form all other characters that have had a past encounter with the H-Dial instantly recognize it. It's as if each time the H-Dial changes its form it also rewrites its own history so that everyone remembers it looking like it currently does.

What versions did you like? Which didn't you like? Thoughts?

The only version I've read is the New 52 version. I liked how they started to explore the concept of other dials.

No version in particular for me, just the basic concept, which IMO is great. I've been good mostly with any of 'em.

The only version I've read is the New 52 version. I liked how they started to explore the concept of other dials. That series was alright, but I think it came across, to me at least, as trying to be more complicated with the H-Dial than it needed to be. The Dial changes its own history with every new form it takes -- that's been fairly well established now. Given that, trying to nail down too many rules and history surrounding the Dial is kind of pointless. China Meiville seemed to be trying to establish a true history of the Dial in that series. I began to lose interest when I realized that. With the new series it seems like yes, once again the whole thing has changed and you can ignore what you thought you knew about the H-Dial.

Pfeifers series was great,I cant state that enough. Agreed, H-E-R-O was probably my favourite of all of these series.

The thing I remember, was that according to Mark Waid, in the Silver Age event back in the 90's, the letters on the dial are really Interlac.

Pfeifers series was great,I cant state that enough. I liked Dial H quite a bit but H-E-R-O is the gold standard. I wish Dial H for Hero the best, especially as it's aimed at a younger audience, and I'm looking forward to reading the first issue.
