Yeah some people don't like Barnes & Noble, but it is pretty much the only bookstore chain we have left here in Hawaii. I'm afraid it will go like Toys R Us did.

Yes, Jesus, I saw this and it's terrible! We need MORE physical bookstores. I love Amazon, but I hardly ever use it to buy physical books; I patronize my local Barnes and Noble instead. Now this.

Same. I love Amazon but I rarely ever buy actually books from there because I enjoy taking my kids to Barnes & Noble and letting my son run around and pick out his own books in the kid's section. Damn. I really hope that this isn't as foreboding as it seems.

I buy from both Amazon and B&N. There is nothing like thumbing through books at a bookstore, or discovering a new title just browsing the shelves.
Sure I have discovered a book by browsing Amazon, but that happens a lot less frequently (though kind of a lot when I shop amazon Japan, but i actively search for things there, it's rarely just "wow look that's cool")

You know, I still have selves of books from B&N I have yet to read. Price of going all digital, I guess.

I better redeem my gift card from B&N then. It's only 15 years old.

People just do not seem to be the readers they once were.

Bought by an equity group is always bad news. Those things just strip and kill pre existing businesses. My sympathies to the employees, and I hope they are quick to find alternative employment.
