Long, strong, worrying. Ridgecrest again. Just happened while I was eating next to a large plate glass door.

Revised magnitude is 6.9 per USGS. Dodger game just kept on going, even pitching during the shaking. No apparent damage. And a wooden frame house is great for this sort of thing. It was earthquake weather...

Well, there seems to have been some confusion as to the magnitude, as the USGS revised it again back up to a 7.1. A fair amount of damage, fires from broken gas lines, (we use natural gas very heavily here, and the lines that carry it are very vulnerable. In fact, we're taught out here to check your gas meter outside your home after each big quake, and they're supposed to have auto shut-off valves that activate during quakes.
China Lake Naval Weapons station suffered a fair bit of damage during the preshock, I don't know about last night's quake. But once again, despite being very far from the epicenter, we felt it very strongly. Hopefully, nothing bigger is coming....but it might be.

Surveying the new reports, it seems there is widespread, but minor, damage. And only minor injuries, rock slides covering roads, the like. Lucky is what I call it; remote location, timing. Could have been much worse if it had been centered someplace closer to major population centers. Some NBA Summer League games were cancelled.

Thanks to fracking, earthquakes are regular around here. But, they're still nothing compare to a plate tectonic quake.
