Yeah, I know Achilles did a CW catchall thread in the Pit. Don't care.
I really can't get a handle on this season. There's little stuff, episode to episode stuff, that I really like, but then an almost equal amount of little stuff I hate, and I still have no real idea what the big picture even is supposed to be. Is it Diaz again? Is it this dude ARGUS is chasing? Do the writers even know?
As for this week:
Yep, Star City Slayer, called it. Different from how the comics did it obviously, but I liked Stanley's role here. Turned this into a pretty fun, offbeat sort of Arrow episode, what with the standard horror movie "scary house" scene (which I thought was actually well done) and then the tense scene in the Queen apartment.
And this is a much more palatable way of clearing out some of the clutter this season than last year's Arrow Civil War nonsense to pare it down to the OG team. Curtis is moving on (hopefully for good), Dinah's injured, and now William's out of the picture...just a few more pieces to move before whatever the final boss ends up being.
And the thing I really can't get a grip on is the flash-forward stuff. Generally I hate flash-forwards because they only have 2 outcomes: they rob the present story of any real stakes or sense of mystery, or they end up being pointless because something happens differently in the present to make them never happen. And this one feels especially unnecessary and dragged out, but then...I like Blackstar, it's fun to see Connor Hawke/John Jr. again (and Old Man Roy's Roykour was still on point in his fight with Connor), and it's starting to get at least a little interesting.
But then, speaking of Blackstar...oh joy, just what Arrow needed. A present time pregnancy storyline. Hopefully most of this is covered during the summer break and they just quickly move her out of the picture a la William.
