Hmmm...looks like that retaliation against China might be coming. Boris Johnson must be pissed, (probably doesn't like that he's got it), as he reportedly is considering cancelling that invitation to Huwei to set up the UK's 5G system. Big news if true. With more and more coming out about how much China lied to the world about infection rates and mortality rates....with the rest of the world relying on that data to formulate their own strategies....how many lives have they cost?

Yes, charming, but you knew stuff like this was coming. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking...

So my wife has a 101.7 temp and a dry cough. I'm fine and will take her in tomorrow morning. Is it just the flu? Or is it...?

Thanks gents.
The drive through tent was easy enough, but then came the super-long q-tip that they put up her nose until it reached her throat. But that was it. Now it's a 3 day wait. Meanwhile, I'm still fine (well, I do have a hangnail and I might be a little hungry).

Good responses to the virus by public officials? I give both CA Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti high marks for their handling of the pandemic, both substantive and in their daily pressers. Which is great since they are normally lightweight panderers who have mostly ignored things like the homeless crisis, or the affordable housing crunch, or the ever increasing taxes in the state. Trump gets...pretty good marks on substance, bad marks on his daily pressers. He has an odd, crappy stream of consciousness speaking style, makes everything about him, and gives inconsistent messages. But his actual moves, though sometimes a bit later than I would have preferred, are generally the right ones, starting with the China travel ban no one else would ever have ordered.
Cuomo, Governor of New York gets somewhat decent marks for his pressers, marred by his occasional foray into dumping on Trump for an offense Cuomo better hope no one vets HIM on, the ventilator thing. Which is what tanks his marks for actual actions; the fact that HE himself didn't bother ordering the ventilators needed when it would have done some good. Also, his ban on the use of those two drugs in treating patients may well have killed some people. He needs to lift that ban, (the medications in question are old ones whose use and safety we are well aware of), and not stick to that stupid and evil insistence some people have on conducting several years worth of clinical trials to determine scientifically if it really works in the middle of a pandemic where people are dying for lack of any treatments. New York Mayor Bill De Blasio is an idiot, pure and simple, and this hasn't done anything to change that. He acted so late as to be one of the proximal causes of NYC's current horror. The Mayor of New Orleans is an A$$hole, going on about how it was Trump's fault that SHE didn't order Mardi Gras closed. But I really don't blame her for not making that call, as it wasn't readily apparent at the time, due to China's lies. But don't blame someone who had nothing to do with it for your own decisions.
Whoever in Washington State handled their crisis did a good job, in terms of the practical. Haven't seen their pressers. The worst is Pelosi, who at this point really doesn't seem to be the Wicked Witch of The West, doing nothing but running Trump down and delaying the aid bill to advance the Green New Deal and her own interests at the expense of all Americans. Hillary Clinton is also the worst, weighing in by cackling at the death toll in the US and the number of infections. STFU, Hill, if you can't be a decent human being and offer some help.
WHO, (World Health Organization), helped murder thousands with their ass kissing China. Given that WHO is led by a terrorist whose main accomplishments were concealing three Cholera epidemics in his own country while health minister there, and who mainly seems interested in being Xi's pet, it probably should be abolished and replaced with an organization that actually gives a crap about world health.
The CDC dropped the ball early and often.
The good news? While a vaccine is in the works, it will take a year or so to hit the market, but there are a lot of candidates to treat the virus in the meantime. The famous one in the new now are chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, old malaria treatments, often in combination with Zithromax, an antibiotic. It seems to work by calming down the body's immune reaction to the virus, which is usually what kills people. There are other drugs like some anti-cancer or HIV drugs, not to mention an experimental Ebola anti-viral that also have seemed to work anecdotally. These work in different ways. Social distancing works. The virus may be airborne, and the actual distance might be more like 27 feet, and it survives for a long time in the air. Hand washing works. Wearing masks probably helps, and couldn't hurt at the least, even a bandana might help if masks aren't available. Self medicating is always a bad idea.

I wouldn't put too much faith in chloroquine. Dr. Fauci has stated there isn't enough data to suggest it's particularly effective, a study of about 30 people taking it didn't yield particularly good results (one person died), and I'd bet that the person Trump mentioned that "took chloroquine and got better", was made up. Y'know, like the people he talks about randomly approaching him to say what a great job he's doing.

He's far from the only one. Fauci is an example of those sorts who ask for concrete scientific proof of something that takes years to get in the midst of a pandemic with tens of thousands dying, and perhaps more. And the FDA approved those medicines for off label usage in this case. The evidence is anecdotal at this point, but it does seem to help cases improve. Not all of course, it is a suspected treatment, not a cure. And that's how treatments work, not equally well on all people. Some cases may be too advanced, and people also differ in their responses to the same drug. But yes, God I wish he'd stop doing that. It's driving me crazy.
