With the show debuting on Netflix the other day, I figured I’d start up a thread for things UA.
Any fans here? I think My Chemical Romance is absolutely fucking awful, so I avoided the comics at first, but after hearing unending praise I gave it a shot a few years back and to say I was pleasantly surprised is a huge understatement. I thought Apocalypse Suite was an amazing debut, and Dallas ended up almost as good. And I haven’t read the latest issue yet, but Hotel Oblivion has so far been a very worthy sequel as well. Way as a comic writer is vastly superior to Way the singer IMO.
And as for the Netflix show, I’m two episodes in so far, and so far it seems just a bit subdued from the source material in terms of some of the superheroics stuff (no Eiffel Tower fun, for example) but they’ve nailed the tone and feel, and I really like all the cast so far too. Gonna try and finish it out over the weekend.

I pass on all Netflix superheroics. They spend far too long dragging things out before doing anything, and when they do do something, it is over far too soon and then it is back to dull gazes and sullen silences again. If I wanted dull gazes, bitchy comments, and sullen silences then I'd spend more time with my family. Netflix really needs to learn how to pick up the pace, and fill an episode with a whole story.

Comment on the comic. I feel like Hazel and Cha-Cha are take thats on Quentin Tarantino style hitmen.

I think one of the reasons this story resonates with me is because it's super dark, but they didn't accomplish that by jumping into the realism deep end. Usually the first thing they do is drop the fun shit, but UA went the opposite route.Talking monkeys. British Aliens. Balls Crazy assassins. This book/show is unapologetcally weird.
