The man who played too many roles that he personally made great died in his sleep at his home in Nassau, the Bahamas. He had been unwell for some time. RIP, James Bond, Dr. Henry Jones Sr., and many others.
He is survived by his wife, and his son by another marriage, actor Jason Connery.

Rest in peace.
I was never a big fan of Bond (in any incarnation). Did like Connery in Untouchables, Time Bandits, Hunt For Red October, Last Crusade… heck I even liked Dragonheart.

Thanks for that, I was having a very, very bad day and that gave me a smile. The perfect picture of a guy clearly not giving any...
I'm pretty sure he was never even embarrassed about that.

A story about him I heard and believe had him in one of his first movies, with Lana Turner, whose boyfriend at the time was a notorious mobster, and he showed up on set waving a gun around because he was upset at Connery for being Turner's romantic lead. From what I heard, Connery simply took the gun from the guy, as Connery apparently ran out of shits to give, and then Connery knocked the guy about for a while. I understand Turner or her daughter later shot the guy to death.
But totally in keeping with a poor Glasgow kid who grew up rough and ready. I also think he was the only choice to play the father of Indiana Jones. Sort of a neat circle there seeing as how Indy got his start with Spielberg after he expressed a wish to direct a Bond film to Lucas, who told him about a character HE was working on, one better than Bond. Indiana...at that time Smith, of course. Of interest is the fact that Connery's mother actually WAS a MacLeod...unlike the French actor Lambert who played Connor MacLeod...

Yeah, Connery was as tough as a coffin nail.

Ugh...That's the one movie they associate him with? That's like associating Raul Julia's career based on Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.
