One of the effects that Crisis on Infinite Earth had on the comic book industry that I hated was the attitude of, "It's an event and we have to kill off characters in an event." It resulted in lots of characters being killed off where there was really wasn't a strong enough story reason to do so.
Yolanda Montez was a prime example of that.
