Congrats to Pete Alonso of the Mets, for having arguably the best rookie season of all time. Last night, to the theme from the Robert Redford movie "The Natural", Alonso took the rookie single season home run record from the Yanks' Judge, hitting his 53rd long ball. And with Alonso...they really ARE long balls, no rinky-dink chip shots just over the right field fence. He hits 'em like Judge. Who, to his credit praised Alonso effusively and predicted a monster career for the rookie. And offered to take him to dinner. sports.yahoo.com/pete-alonso-sets-mlb-record-for-most-homers-by-a-rookie-001701316.html

You fine with Maddon, achilles? Well, I knew it was coming. Not quite this soon, but in the offseason. He had a bunch of bad breaks with key injuries, but the team still never played up to expectations...which still weren't very high. There's no easy way for them to rebuild. Their farm system sucks, unlike the Dodgers or Padres, and they don't seem committed to buying good to great stars in free agency. But everyone knew he was the guy to pay the price. Owners are ultimately to blame of course. Also, since I can't watch them on TV, I'm not really a huge fan. Bigger fan of teams across the country like the Astros, Nats, and Braves since I can see them a few times a year. Those home market blackout deals the Angels and Dodgers have don't help them gain and maintain fans.

It's the Brewers at the Nats today to face the Dodgers on Thursday. Due to the Brewers' key injuries, I'd give a slight edge to the Nats, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they managed.

With Miss. State alum Brandon Woodruff getting the start for the Brewers tonight, and my Cards (including another former MSU pitcher, Dakota Hudson) starting on Thursday, I’m more emotionally invested in the playoffs than I have been in a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng while.

But if they have to lose, I hope they just get outplayed by the Brewers...which is entirely possible, rather than due what the Dodgers do best, come from ahead to lost the big ones. Whoever loses here should lose with class and dignity. And that's pretty much how I feel for every team in the playoff...except the Dodgers and the Yanks. The Yanks, f*ck 'em. The Dodgers...need to lead their fans on...pretending they will actually win the Series this time...until they can choose the right moment for the best dramatic and complete collapse! Or...I won't know they're the Dodgers and might suspect they've been replaced with pod people...
