If you want to not sleep, then Read This.Damn, I so do not like to see the words So we really know nothing about it after months. It kills people by destroying any and every organ in the body, just about. Heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, intestines, blood....damn.

A mixed bag of news, though mostly bad. I watched a local doctor who had travelled to NYC to his old hospital to help give an interview on local news, and he described COVID as unlike anything he'd ever seen, with each patient presenting different symptoms and having different outcomes. And now scientists are saying this won't ever go away for good, but will keep hitting up in waves. Also, some scientists are saying we may never have a vaccine.
Much, much better news however. First off, Trump's thing, the malaria drug. There was that "study" of VA patients that presumed to say it was not only ineffective, but dangerous, (which is odd because it's a very old drug that we understand very well how to safely use). Turns out it barely qualifies as a study. It was done by eye doctors for some reason, and ignored basically every factor you'd consider if you were doing a real, serious study, like what dosage you were giving to use just one example. Meanwhile anecdotal evidence pours in saying it CAN save lives. Like that of another local doctor who caught it while treating patients and nearly died before being saved by hydroxychloroquine, (and I shall never attempt to spell that again). He was absolutely convinced it saved his life, and so were the doctors who gave it to him as he lay dying. So it awaits a real study to prove one way or the other.
Best news of all? Plasma seems to work just about every time, even in the most severe and deadly cases. And it seems to work very quickly as well. Now I'm sure there are some people who are so far gone it won't work, and it also may be that given the wide ranging way COVID apparently works, attacking nearly every organ in the body, this may not work for everyone, but for now at least it looks great. Let's hope it remains great as more information becomes available.

Shit. Not from covid-19, but related. RIP Yes, that's very sad. There's a lot of ways this thing is killing people, even those who don't have it at all. Don't forget all the people who died preventable deaths because EMTs were told to let them die, rather than take beds from COVID patients, (even in places where that wasn't an issue). Or those who died because "elective" surgeries that really weren't couldn't get them.

Weirdly, it seems COVID hates smoking. Maybe nicotine. Smokers, who you'd think would be the most vulnerable aren't, with a low rate of hospitalizations.

So Mayor Bill de Blasio hates Jews. Hmmm...
Background is there was a Rabbi who died of this, and he had a funeral. I think it was ultra-Orthodox. A lot of people attended. So Mayor Bill, in his fervor over Jews or COVID, or more likely both, PERSONALLY raided the funeral with the NYPD, (who, since they hate his guts I'm sure will apologize and blame him, saying he forced them to do it. Then he tweeted out a warning....to JEWS. All of them. And no one else. Not...say the ones who went to the funeral. Not any other religion that had funerals during this, and you know there are some, just them. I'm not surprised. It fits with the far left wing of the Democratic party, of which he's an idiot member.
Meanwhile, I'm waiting on the accusations that billions of Americans died from following the instructions of the wife of the lesser Cuomo to bathe in bleach. Which happened. All except the accusation part.
Meanwhile, information on the virus itself changes almost hourly. No one seems able to pin down all the ways it kills, or anything like how to stop it. Gilead, or however you spell it, is preparing to release a positive study on Resmidivir, or however you spell that, after another study suggested no benefits. I affects children. Or not. Only old people. Or not. Six feet. Or more like 21. Stays on surfaces for hours to days. Unless it's only minutes. Masks help. No they don't.
Closures, always of dubious Constitutionality, are arbitrary, like Washington State's allowing people to put their boats in the water and go out in them, but NOT allowing them to then put a fishing line into the water. Evidently FISH cause this.

So, that Gilead drug, Resmidver or whatever, seems to work...mildly, at reducing the death rate, according to a study by Fauci's group. That mildly bit shouldn't be understated, it IS a very mild improvement, 3-4%. Better than nothing, I presume, especially since Fauci's people immediately abandoned the study and let the control placebo group know so they could try it...it appears to block an enzyme the virus needs.

And in a move that was perhaps inevitable, ESPN will become...drum roll please....yes, YES, YES! It will become....ESPN 8, the Ocho, for a day! No, it's real and not a joke...well, it IS a joke, from the movie Dodgeball if there's really anyone who didn't get that. But yeah, ESPN itself seems to be fans of the movie, enough to mess with their from what I heard Disney programming to do that joke. The Mountain from Game of Thrones, (the huge muscular one), will try to set the deadlift world record, and other sports that no one has heard of will feature here for 11 hours, starting on Saturday. Just remember, if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. And don't make Ben Stiller bleed his own blood. Please, please get Gary Cole and the other funny guy to do commentary in character!

COVID 19 has shown us why the death penalty is needed. As you know, well, hopefully know, though the news is full of not this, prisoners are being released by the thousands across the country, in the name of protecting them from COVID, though no provisions were mentioned in any case to protect the rest of us from them.
You may say, "Achilles, only the least violent offenders are being released", and you'd be totally wrong. Apart from the murders and rapes and other crime that have already been committed by those released prisoners, there's this: in Washington state, Gary Ridgway came within ONE vote of being released by the Washington State Supreme Court in a move that would have let 2/3 of their prisoners loose.
For those of you who might somehow be familiar with that name, but are unable to place him...he's the Green River Killer, who confessed in 2001 to murdering 71 women and girls, and was convicted of 41 of those murders. At the time, prosecutors did not seek the death penalty because it was Washington State, where they knew they'd be spending millions upon millions of dollars to even have a try at it. But, hey, he got over 500 years in prison. Except...that has been shown to be meaningless, since any future government in the state can and will release them. While the residents of the state of Washington might have barely escaped being murdered again by Ridgway, they have more shots coming, among them a peach of a guy who murdered 5 people in a rampage.
And of course in other states, (Hi New York!), those murders and rapes have already occured, not to mention numerous sundry other crimes. It's almost as if turning a large part of the prison population loose on a largely unsuspecting public might not be such a good idea!

This Is A Concern.Another one is the frankly seriously undemocratic and let's just say it authoritarian tendencies we're seeing all over the country and world. The basic concern being...will they give up the power they just took when this is all over? My bet is no, many of them won't. And will they try to stretch it out as long as they can? I've heard recent claims that this will last two years. Also, note that the impact of this falls disproportionately on the poor and middle class, not the wealthy who can afford to hunker down in their estates pretty much forever.

In his continuing efforts to do a bang-up job on COVID, Gov Cuomo of New York finally ordered the NYC subway cars cleaned every day! Who'd have thunk that was a good idea? And....maybe a LONG time ago? Well, good to know he's on the job. I expect he's also great at closing barn doors after the barn has burned down and the horses all died in the fire.
On the plus side, maybe clean subway cars will confuse the public, and they will refuse to pack into them like sardines.

Words Fail. This is one of the sorts of things that get people to start to think that it isn't about protecting the public, but rather about something else. If you're intent on putting the public in extreme danger because of your ideology, and want to use this as an excuse to unleash very dangerous sex offenders who have already tampered with their ankle collars, you don't give a flying f*ck about the public. And of course as I said, Washington State just barely dodged a vicious attack by their own Supreme Court. When those people inevitably kill or rape again, the Justices who release them should be held as liable criminally as the criminals they released. And yes, I'm mad about this; those creatures live in cities that surround where I live. And there are a LOT of kids in my neighborhood.
