And yet another typhoon headed toward Japan. Looks like a big one, ugh.

I think the current death toll is at 19. Many still missing though. I guess the good thing is that it swept through relatively fast. Still, not a great outcome.

I've been following it on NHK, and some of those rainfall totals were mindblowing to a guy who basically lives in a desert. A METER in a single hour in maybe Kanagawa IIRC...

Speaking of "holy cow again?!" Yeah, the sky was red this morning, even though I'm quite far from the nearest ongoing fire. Not from the flames, it's too far for that, but the smoke. Yesterday, there was something near my home from a DUI crash that sparked a brushfire, but fortunately it just burned itself out with some help from pretty much every local fire department. Those guys jump on anything that looks flaming...er, on fire, to knock it down before it turns into something. At least I didn't have to water down my roof again, that gets old, and no ash falls this time. We get rolling blackouts, some of which can last for days or weeks, because the power companies are too afraid...for good reason, the one up in Sonoma was evidently started by PG and E lines sparking again. Of course, they won't actually SOLVE the problem by burying the lines; that would cost money. That Pacific Palisades fire BTW, it was funny watching the live shots in the neighborhood and seeing some of the people talking to the news crews; I recognized like half of them. Movies, TV, bunch of celebs with some really fine houses.

I can't imagine how bad those fires must be. Ugh.
Stay safe.

Five people killed in New Zealand volcanic eruption. It's on an island popular with tourists. No more survivors are expected; up to two dozen are feared dead. There was a live feed of people walking on the crater floor....then it went dead. They appear to mostly be passengers from the cruise ship Ovation of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean. Some of those rescued have severe burns. It's too dangerous currently for authorities to try more rescue attempts, but again, it's thought no one else survived. Up to 50 people from the ship were on the island.

Didn't hear about the deaths.

Sadly, and something we all knew was going to happen, the victims of that New Zealand volcano eruption continue to die; the latest an American woman. There remain many in hospital with very bad burns...from what I know of that sort of injury, it may be a relief to die when that badly burned, and many of the victims have burns over 80-95% of their bodies...only occasionally survivable. I really hope they stop tourism to active volcanoes worldwide... www.yahoo.com/gma/american-woman-dies-burns-weeks-volcano-erupted-zealand-082000868--abc-news-topstories.html

Sadly, as long as there is something kind of dangerous, people will want to try it.
For instance, I can't believe this IDIOT's family won this lawsuit
Sorry, someone died, but come on…

I think the great Wesley Snipes summed it up perfectly: "Some muthaf*ckas always got to ice skate uphill."
