Congrats to World Series MVP Strasbourg, and well deserved, and congrats to the Washington Nationals for their first World Series victory! It was a great and historic World Series as the oldest team in baseball won. IMO it was the best outcome for MLB, with the Cinderella team winning. Now the Nats need to work on keeping Rendon and Strasbourg, who are both going to command huge salaries in free agency. But the Nats need to keep them if they want to challenge again. Great season filled with all sorts of twists! This is how I like a World Series, close, seven games, with th underdog winning. Nice Corvette that Strasbourg got for being Series MVP, the new mid-engine one that looks nothing like a Corvette, but rather the child of a McLaren P1 and a Ferrari 458. Sweet looking thing, but probably rather ill suited to a guy with a wife and two young daughters.

Uh oh, all is not well in Astro Land; Cole is telling people he's not employed by the team, and was seen wearing his...agent's cap, rather than an Astros' cap just moments after they lost. Might be that he isn't intending to be back? www.foxnews.com/sports/gerrit-cole-boras-corp-astros-world-series-free-agentSo it looks like the Astros band will be broken up. The Angels would probably love him, but let's face it, he wouldn't love pitching for them. It'd take him, Rendon, Strasbourg, and another great hitter to turn the Angels into anything at all, and they still wouldn't compete for a Series, as they also need an entire pen.

The second guessing starts, and I can see why. I was watching when they put Harris in, and turned and mentioned that it was a huge mistake; they should have put Cole, who had been warming up, in instead. I had a feeling Harris was not rested enough, and I was right. Astros manager is copping to the mistake, but it's going to haunt him for a while.
I do think that Cole could have had better timing after the game. Wait for a week or two before telling the Astros to French kiss Trump. Just a bit off is what I'm saying. He's obviously leaving the Astros, it doesn't sound like they have a chance. Rendon for the Nats is the big question IMO. He's already turned down an initial, (and way too little IMO given How good Rendon is), offer from the Nats, and it's obvious he's going to be one of the biggest non-pitcher free agents, so he's probably looking at something like what Harper got with the Phillies. IMO, sounds like Strasburg is planning on staying with the Nats if they give him anything close to what he's asking, whatever that is, (bound to be huge).
And on that subject, I think Strasburg did himself a huge Cy Young favor in the postseason. He certainly has a few competitors for that honor, but they didn't have that post season run. That's going to stick in the minds of the award voters I think. For the AL, probably Cole, though Verlander has a good shot.

What if postseason counted for awards?

What if postseason counted for awards? Not officially, but I bet it's on the minds of the voters for next season. Assuming of course he puts up similar numbers. But he's probably going to win this year. Ryu and DeGrom are probably his nearest competitors, but DeGrom played for the Mets, who didn't exactly have a great season, and Ryu...well he's not the sort of pitcher MLB likes, and by that I mean the moneyball guys. He throws a lot of baffling junk, whereas the trend is for guys with 100 MPH fastballs, a curve, and little else. Ryu barely throws into the 90s once in a while. On the merits, I don't know which of them I'd choose. Cole will likely win for the AL. Though V might have a shot, being the wins champion.

The biggest thing Strasburg did for himself was jack up his price. In negotiations, he can point to his season's work, plus the post season, and teams will probably be in something of a bidding war for him, (Cole too, for somewhat similar reasons). If the Astros lose Cole, they're probably not returning to the Series for a while. If the Nats lose Strasburg and/or Rendon, they're probably just going to rebuilding, as they're the oldest team in MLB. And the stat guys and others are supposedly calling for them to just break up. I think that's stupid, and I'd try to wring another one out of the current line up, but that's me.
