Question. The downloadable service Hoopla has 'Heroes in Crisis'. Should I attempt to read and waste one of my checkouts for the month? I haven't read it yet. General consensus I heard: no. After reading it, I'd say Heroes in Crisis isn't the worst thing this year, and that includes DC's output this year....... But... It traverses Justice League: Cry for Justice/Age of Ultron territory. There's a palpable flow to it, but there are some questionable choices in regards to the writing. Some of the concepts hold up. It's just that there's issues with the execution of it all.

There were some interesting ideas that kept the action fresh, but there were some things lacking in the execution that kept it from being a chore to read. This another example of why Snyder and Jock are a top class duo in the comics business. A lot of this ties into the recent Metal event, but it also follows up some of the events in The Black Mirror. Compelling material that only gets hampered by the worry of how DC will follow this up. Supported with solid, additional work by Tynion IV and Risso, this is one of the best reads from DC this year.

Just found out these two things exist:
They are both on the digital service Hoopla and the final issue of Superman Year One came out several weeks ago.

Be curious to hear what you think of Superman: Year One. I tried the first issue, and while I thought it was all right, it didn't have enough of an appeal to keep me reading. Just wondering what people who read the whole thong thought of it.

Second issue was neat because it shows Clark has joined the Navy, how many characters have we seen who were in the Navy, and was fast tracked to SEAL training and has discovered an underwater kingdom. It feels rather long and I didn't make it all the way through. I have yet to read the third issue. I'm a bit behind on my comics reading.

I generally enjoy Miller's work and may come back to this when it is released as a collected edition.

I've about reached the point where Bunn can do no wrong, particularly on horror/supernatural stuff. This first volume is really cool, with a great central hook and interesting characters. Art is fantastic too. "A new drug is sweeping through the streets of New Orleans—one made from the ashes of the dead. Wars are being fought over who will control the supply, and the demand is rising. While the various criminal factions collide, users begin to experience terrifying visions of the dead coming back to life...through them. Eisner Award-nominated author Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, The Empty Man) and illustrator Jonas Scharf team up for Bone Parish, a haunting blend of horror and crime that takes an unflinching look at how we connect to—and disconnect from—the world around us."

Volume four of Ice Cream Man is out. I wish these volumes were more than four issues.

Thor Vol. 3: War's End
There are things that I dig about the character choices, but the narration doesn't quite hit the sweet spot. It ends with some interesting new status quos. I'm hoping that King Thor ends things on a high note.
