The idiots who are trying to tank Captain Marvel's rating on aggregator sites like Rotten Tomatoes are going to end up indirectly helping it. Nobody wants those assholes to "win." Plus it is the lead in film to Avengers: Endgame, it introduces the Skrulls, and it is Marvel's first female-led entry into the MCU. Right now the only thing anyone can make note of on Rotten Tomatoes is whether or not they are interested in seeing the movie. At the moment, Captain Marvel is at 53 percent, while SHAZAM! is at 94 percent.

I wouldn't say that the comments "bother" me but it does become pretty clear, pretty quickly, that a good portion of these comments are in a similar, Comicgate-esque style that people tried to use against Black Panther. It's humorous to me in a sad, desperate sort of way.

Less sure now about Captain Marvel. Seems there was a lot of excitement for it...and then Brie Larson decided to start talking. As in speaking her mind, which evidently isn't all that impressive. Basically, instead of the standard "God what a great movie this is; I had a great time making it" sort of thing that even Harrison Ford can manage, (and he sucks at PR, seems to be an introvert in real life), she started going SJW about reviewers being too white and too male. Well, probably they mostly are, but deal with it, lady, preferably without pissing off half your potential audience. Most actors can manage that. You want to make a statement, wait until one month AFTER your movie's been released, rather than try to tank your box office.
Movie and TV stars should keep in mind that they're first and foremost entertainers, trying to get as large an audience as possible. What she shouldn't have done was basically label this a women's only movie. I'm still sure that it will do big business, but Shazam seems nothing more than a fun comic book movie, with no social justice message. Hell, Captain Marvel itself probably isn't that, but with Larson going on like that, she's making it seem that way. You want everyone to be comfortable going to your movie, men, women, children, and whatever Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are.

I have no problem with that "female action lead" movie thing which IMO is a myth that Hollywood believes, (yes, probably because "Hollywood" means male in terms of decision makers). And Larson is perfectly right to want more opportunities for women in those positions. But she could have chosen a better time for it. She was doing PR, and that means saying nothing controversial, and lying to everyone about how great your project is. A rookie move IMO. And...I feel a bit embarrassed about this, I should know it, and I vaguely recall the name, but what was Comicgate, and what did people say about Black Panther that was related?

There were certainly some of those...matched by people who seem only interested in seeing the movie because it will support what they want to believe about women. Both are probably out in the extremes, but neither actually seem to be critiquing the actual movie.

The actual trailers for both seem just fine. Different movies obviously, but each seem fine in their own way. Have to see if it pans out that way.

It also has a horrible marketing campaign. OTOH I've barely seen any marketing for Shazam. Same here. I have some idea about what Captain Marvel is going to be about. When it comes to Shazam, while it looks fun, I have no clue what the plot is or who the villain is going to be. In that way, the marketing for Shazam has been a lot worse than that for Captain Marvel.

Well, at the very least, we can be sure they obeyed the movie making 101 command, "Thou shalt cast a British actor as the villain".

All I know is that Brie Larson looks like she could carry the lead of a movie more than Zachary Levi can.
