Why hasn't Marvel done a prequel to Age of Apocalypse? I was reading the latest issue of Uncanny X-Men with the Dark Beast in it and I was wondering what made him the way he is. I want to know how the Age of Apocalypse world came about. I heard it came about because Marvel needed another mid-90's money grab.

I want to know how the Age of Apocalypse world came about. As I recall it, the Age of Apocalypse was the result of Legion trying to kill his father, Charles Xavier. He somehow managed to shatter the timeline, although this only seemed to affect the X-titles of the day. All the the then-existing X-books were suspended and replaced by a bunch of four-issue miniseries. After that, the X-books resumed with the mutant heroes having vague memories of the divergent world. Bishop was somehow dropped from the mainstream universe and into the Age of Apocalypse with some or all of his memories intact, and came out of the experience with better memories of AoA, but I don't think much was made of it. A few of the AoA characters (Dark Beast, Sugar Man, X-Man) were carried into the mainstream Marvel U. Dark Beast got a solo issue in the first X-Men Unlimited series which gave him some background but I barely remember anything about it.

Minor correction: Legion went back in time to kill a younger Magneto, so he wouldn't impede his Dad's work, but young Chuck got in the way and died.
I don't know if they ever got into details of how this proved so beneficial to Apocalypse conquering everything, but I don't know if it's totally necessary. Some things are fine without detailed explanation.

X-Men Unlimited #10, written by Mark Waid!!! 54 pages of story for $3.95
{Spoiler} The story involves Dark Beast meeting people who were close to our Hank at various stages of his life and killing them. He spares Hank's parents. He takes Hank prisoner at the end of the story.

But its not even bad enough to be memorable. Its just bland and generic.Even the villains are all the same, just weaker.Doctor Doom is still basically Doctor Doom, but without the cool powers. And by his second appearance they even forgot they gave him satyr-legs he had the first time around.

Something I havent considered till now...but with Disney getting Fox,Marvel could get Alien and Predator licences. At least we know what their next few events would be about.

I'm reading Avengers 252 and I have to laugh a two parts. One the Vision entices Doc Samson into joining the Avengers with the prospect of creating a Midwest team a few years before the Great Lake Avengers appear and quite awhile before an Avengers team in every state. Two the Vision asking Captain America what he would do to bring peace and prosperity to the world and it would only cost Captain America his personal well being, cue Secret Empire.

Yeah, I have to agree here. I thought a lot of the Ultimate books did a fair job of capturing the essence of Marvel characters, but the take on Ultimate FF was just off.
Seems like the FF as a concept is just beyond most modern writers.
