Okay, for my first thread here, the posting of a quote and a clip from Buckaroo Banzai got me thinking about the smaller movies. Everyone loves Star Wars, (1977), Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Black Panther...
But what about the smaller movies you loved? What are they? For me, obviously Buckaroo Banzai is one of my all-time favorites. Some of mine include Big Trouble in Little China, John Carpenter's Vampires, John Carpenters Ghosts of Mars, (hi Jason Statham), Escape From New York, (sense an early theme here), Highlander, Stargate, Tremors, Death Hunt, Breakheart Pass, The Challenge, Silverado (okay, kind of marginal as to the "little" thing), The Final Countdown, Timerider, Remo Williams, Posse (mid 70s western with Bruce Dern and Kirk Douglas). I go back and forth as to whether Robocop is a smaller movie.
So, your turn. There is BTW a bit of a purpose to this thread; basically to find movies we might otherwise not have known about or thought of...

Buckaroo Bonzai, Big Trouble, Remo Williams, and the Last Dragon, are, in my eyes, the perfect 80's superhero movies. I hve long wanted to write an RPG supplement for them, like a League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen of the 80's type thing...
Honestly,a thread like this, I could fill... seriously, there needs to be some type of rules, or structure, or at least basic consistency...

Last Dragon....how could I have forgotten about that one. Which is kind of the point of this thread, at least originally, to remind people of these movies, or inform them in the first place. And...to feel the Glow...

I mean, I could go on about my love for low budget 80's Road Warrior rip-offs like A Boy and His Dog, Wheels Of Fire, Battle Truck, Spacehunter, Cherry 2000, Neon City, Blood Of Heroes...
Or my favorite b-movie cyberpunk flicks of the late 80's to mid 90's, like Nemesis, Circuitry Man, Hardware,Fortress...

I am one of those weird people who has Star Trek: The Motion Picture as her favourite film, and if you don't like it then it is probably because you've not watched it while high. It is a super trip.
Also Labyrinth, for the, uh, obvious reason.
Plus all the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby "Road" movies. Those are all super fun.

Also Streets of Fire, Battle Beyond the Stars, Dark City, The Philadelphia Experiment, Full Metal Jacket. I kind of sort of half remember Cherry 2000 now that you mention it. But not well, just that it existed...

Let me see, you reason was that Dr. Crusher was the dance choreographer? Nothing to do with David Bowie's...ah...Bowie? Me, I just had a crush on Jennifer Connelly...(see Dark City as well, though like Labyrinth I had other reasons).

Well, the unfortunate death of Albert Finney, RIP, made me think of Looker, a nice little thriller. Also, Rollercoaster, another great little thriller from the 70s. Night Moves, another 70s thriller starring Gene Hackman, Force Ten From Navarone, with Harrison Ford, Robert Shaw, Edward Fox, and Carl Weathers. Wargames.

Yes, indeed. To be fair, I had crushes on a lot of ladies, celebrity or otherwise...

Man, I loved 1408. I can see how it got poor reviews, but not THAT poor.
Also, how I didnt hear of Killing Gunther before finding it in the $6 bin at WalMart, I'll never know! Sure, its got corny setups, but THAT'S THE JOKE. One of them, at least. Its like watching something Seth McFarlane wrote in the same feel as Family Guy and American Dad.

It doesn't get better than the original King (1933), It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) or The Fisher King (1991).
And I'll second A Boy and His Dog and raise you Deathrace 2000 (1975), Of Unknown Origin (1983), After Hours (1985) and damn near anything by Buster Keaton.

My 3 favorite fantasy flicks of all time...
And honorable mention goes to the single best looking dragon to ever appear on screen....
